Contact lenses & care

  • Für wen sind Kontaktlinsen geeignet?

In principle, contact lenses are suitable for everyone regardless of age – whether wearers have very high correction needs or special vision corrections.

Furthermore, there is already a wide selection of specialty lenses available, for example, for color vision deficiencies (for better color perception) or with integrated filters. Of course, there are always exceptions, but even after eye surgery, wearing contact lenses is possible – provided they are fitted by a specialist. For long-term comfort, it is always essential that contact lenses are individually fitted by a professional and checked regularly. Whether it works or not also depends on personal motivation – those who need to be "convinced" by others are unlikely to be happy with them. It is particularly important for children to express their own desire to wear contact lenses.

For certain eye diseases, close cooperation with the necessary medical monitoring by an ophthalmologist is advisable.

  • Warum ist es wichtig, dass Kontaktlinsen von einem*r Spezialisten*in angepasst werden?

Because no two eyes are the same.

Size, shape, and needs vary from person to person. Standardized contact lenses, such as daily, weekly, or monthly lenses, are manufactured for the "average" person for economic reasons. This is comparable to shoe sizes: if there were only size 38 for women or 43 for men, many eyes simply wouldn't be fitted properly – and the same is true for contact lenses.

Poorly fitting contact lenses – even those made of the best material – can lead to red, dry eyes or discomfort. The fit of all contact lenses changes throughout the day.

A specialist individually fits contact lenses to the specific characteristics of the eye – this increases the likelihood of long-term, comfortable contact lens use, even for those with special needs. Incorrectly fitted lenses are one of the most common reasons why contact lens wearers switch back to full-time glasses. A key advantage of individual fitting is that if problems arise while wearing contact lenses, you can contact the specialist at any time to find a solution.

  • Advantages of contact lenses

Contact lenses offer many practical and optical advantages in everyday life:

    More freedom in everyday life

  • Wearing comfort –> barely noticeable
  • No fogging at changing temperatures
  • Freedom of movement - no slipping or falling off
  • Ideal for sports, exercise, outdoor activities, etc.
  • inconspicuous when worn

  • More natural vision

  • Contact lenses offer different imaging ratios than glasses
  • No magnification/reduction effect, both for the eyes behind the glasses and for the image of an object that the wearer sees.
  • Unrestricted field of vision

  • How long can a contact lens stay in the eye?

    Less is more!

The most common recommendation is still to plan one lens-free day per week.

Our recommendation is to wear your contact lenses exactly as needed. This might mean wearing them for longer on one day because you have a meeting planned after work, and not at all on the next day because you're working from home and don't need to go shopping.

Therefore, it is advisable to wear the lenses selectively - not to insert them immediately after getting up and to remove them again in good time - similar to taking off shoes.

The cornea needs time to recover and support its metabolism. This allows the eyes to "breathe" in between and provides additional relief.

  • How do I order the right contact lenses for me?

If your current contact lenses are well tolerated without any issues, you should always follow the recommendations of your eye care professional when reordering. Important information such as product name, geometry, and diopters can be found on every package – HERE we show you what each piece of information means and where to find your values on the packaging.

It makes no sense to arbitrarily change the values "a little bit" – for example, according to the motto: "My vision is a little worse, so I'll just add a little more." Because impaired vision is often not due to the diopter, but to other factors such as baseline values, tear film, or other parameters.

For reliable reordering, always refer to your previous values – if in doubt, your contact lens fitter will be happy to help.

If you have previously purchased contact lenses from us, simply use the "easy reorder" option and we will take care of the rest.

  • How do I dispose of contact lenses correctly?

Contact lenses should always be disposed of in the general waste after use - never via the sink or toilet, as they pollute the sewage system, decompose and end up as microplastic particles in the groundwater.

Empty blister packs and cardboard boxes can be disposed of in the yellow bag, residual waste or waste paper.

  • How often do I need to change the solution in my contact lenses?

The liquid in your contact lens case should be changed daily - at least every time you insert and remove your lenses.

This is the only way to ensure your contact lenses are hygienically clean and protected from germs.

You should regularly rinse the container itself with fresh solution and replace it with each new bottle of cleaning agent.

  • How often do you need to clean monthly contact lenses?

Monthly contact lenses, like any other type of contact lens, should be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected every day after wearing. This ensures they remain hygienic, comfortable, and safe until the end of their intended wearing period.

Daily disposable contact lenses are an exception, as they are discarded after use.

  • Wie reinige ich meine Kontaktlinsen richtig?

Hygiene is the basis of all contact lens care – so always wash your hands thoroughly first.

Anything that sticks to your fingers ends up directly on the lens and in your eye. Residues such as chili or essential oils often cannot be completely removed – the lens is then usually unusable.

Because the cornea becomes somewhat more sensitive when wearing contact lenses, germs can enter the eye through small injuries and cause inflammation – sometimes harmless, sometimes serious.

Therefore: Never take personal care lightly!

It is also essential to replace the contact lens case regularly – ideally whenever a new bottle of contact lens solution is opened. It is important not to boil the lens case! Heat makes the plastic porous and more susceptible to germs.

Don't skimp on cleaning solution: Fresh solution must be added to the case after every use. And very importantly – only use the cleaning solution that is compatible with your lenses.
