Which glasses make your face shine?
Not every pair of glasses suits every face – this is mainly due to the different face shapes. Knowing your own proportions makes choosing the perfect frame much easier.
How to determine your face shape
Stand in front of a mirror, pull your hair back from your face, and trace the contour of your face.
Your face most closely resembles one of these shapes:
round, rectangular, square, oval, triangular

Round face
Square or rectangular glasses suit round faces particularly well – they add definition and create a lengthening effect. Narrow lenses compensate for the typically short distance between the eyebrows and cheekbones.
Rimless frames look understated and don't emphasize the width of the face. Striking temples add an exciting touch. Flat-top or shield glasses can also work well.
Round glasses are less suitable, as they accentuate the shape of the face - unless this look is desired.
rectangular face
Rectangular faces with a strong jawline appear instantly softer with round or oval frames. Cat-eye, aviator, or panto glasses, as well as delicate metal frames, are particularly popular – they bring a sense of lightness to the face.
Tall lenses and striking full-rim frames create optical balance and shorten the length of the face.
Square frames are less suitable, as they emphasize the angular features even more – unless that is exactly the desired look.
square face
Square faces appear very striking due to their straight contours, broad chin, and angular forehead – and they are usually shorter than rectangular faces. To visually lengthen the face, rimless frames with prominent temples are particularly suitable.
Cat-eye, panto, and aviator glasses also create softer lines and harmonious proportions. Narrower lenses are recommended for those with high cheekbones, as larger models can quickly become too prominent.
It's best to avoid square frames., as they further emphasize the striking facial features – unless that is precisely the desired look.
Oval or oblong face
Oval faces are true all-rounders – almost any frame shape suits them. Round frames create a softer look, while angular ones add more definition.
Oblong faces benefit from tall or bold lenses, which visually shorten the face. For narrow faces, rimless models are often the best choice.
For mixed shapes like oblong-oval or oblong-angular, the mix helps: pay attention to the basic shape and also consider details that balance the length – such as softer lines or tall glasses.
Triangular or heart-shaped face
Triangular or heart-shaped faces can be recognized by a broad forehead, high cheekbones and a narrow, pointed chin.
Oval or round eyeglass shapes look particularly harmonious here.
Delicate frames – such as rimless models or filigree metal glasses – flatter the face and make it appear softer. Low-set temples help to visually balance the forehead area.
Thick full-rim frames or very wide glasses are less suitable – they can quickly overload the face and make the upper part appear too dominant.
